Eμπνευσμένο από το ποίημα Sii Dolce con me («Να είσαι τρυφερός μαζί μου») της Ιταλίδας ποιήτριας Mariangela Gualtieri, το έργο αντλεί από την επίκληση τρυφερότητας του ποιήματος—προς τον εαυτό μας, προς τους άλλους και προς τον κόσμο που κατοικούμε. Οι στίχοι της Gualtieri μάς υπενθυμίζουν ότι η ευθραυστότητα δεν συνιστά αδυναμία, αλλά μια συνθήκη που χρειάζεται ευγένεια, προσοχή και φροντίδα. Το βελούδινο ύφασμα παρουσιάζει δεκατρία είδη λουλουδιών ενδημικών στην Ιταλία, αντηχώντας καίρια ζητήματα περιβαλλοντικής προστασίας. Σε μια εποχή επιταχυνόμενων οικολογικών μετασχηματισμών, η προστασία των απειλούμενων εγγενών ειδών συνδέεται αδιάρρηκτα με γενικότερες πράξεις φροντίδας, τόσο προς τους ανθρώπους όσο και προς κάθε τι μη-ανθρώπινο. Το ύφασμα έχει εκτεθεί σε διαβρωτικό οξύ, διαδικασία που το καθιστά μερικώς διάφανο, και αυτή η αυξημένη του ευαισθησία απαιτεί προσεκτικό χειρισμό, αντανακλώντας την ευαλωτότητα των φυσικών οικοσυστημάτων και την ευθύνη που φέρουμε απέναντί τους. Το Sii Dolce con Me στέκεται ως μια ωδή στη φύση, ενσαρκώνοντας τη λεπτότητα και τη μοναδικότητα της ύπαρξης.

Titled after the poem Sii Dolce con me (Be sweet with me) by Italian poet Mariangela Gualtieri, this work draws on the poem’s invocation of tenderness – toward oneself, toward others, and toward the world we inhabit. Gualtieri’s verses remind us that fragility is not a weakness but a condition that calls for gentleness, attention, and care. The velvet textile presents thirteen species of flowers endemic to Italy, echoing urgent themes of ecological preservation. At a time of accelerating environmental transformation, the protection of endangered native species becomes inseparable from broader acts of care towards the human and the non-human alike. The fabric has been exposed to a corroding acid, a process that renders it partially transparent. This heightened delicacy demands careful handling, mirroring the vulnerability of natural ecosystems and the responsibility we bear toward them. Sii Dolce con Me stands as an ode to nature that embodies the fragility and uniqueness of being.
